The editorial environment is a special world. There are no sprints and backlogs here. There’s a deadline — and it’s always today. Content appears fast, decisions are made fast, and design has to keep up with that pace, not slow it down.
Izvestia is one of the country’s oldest newspapers. I took part in creating the publication’s first fully fledged web version. The task was not easy: to bring the weight and authority of the print edition into the digital space while preserving readability, hierarchy, and editorial character.
It was an important start. It was here that I first truly understood the difference between design as creativity and design as a tool. In an editorial office, design serves the text. Always. Without exception.
I still remember that lesson to this day.
